me

My name is Lisa Gilbert aka Sloan and I am a new resident to Nova Scotia. Most of the work displayed in this blog were created while I lived in Norwich, ON. For three years I worked for The Norwich Gazette, The Ingersoll Times and The Oxford Review as a freelance photographer. I have appeared as a guest columnist and feature writer for the Norwich Gazette. My work with the newspapers has allowed me to integrate into this community that was so foreign to me upon my arrival. My adventures across the province and the country have always provide me with excellent opportunities to document my experience through photography.
My photos are all taken with a digital camera. I do my own editing and printing from home. I am self taught, and enjoy the insightful and creative outlet photography has afforded me.
This is a small sample of my work.
Enjoy.

About Almost - Almost was created from the remnants of an old coffee table that I took the marble top off of and was left with nothing but the frame. Instead of throwing it away I messed around with it until it became something. This piece currently adorns my bedroom wall as a mantle for tea lights.Ortus - Sept 2007

About 'Jane'
Jane is a size 2, 5'7" mannequin. She has been decorated with vintage nudes printed on standard paper. These nudes portray busty, full figured women, from a time period when body image held a much different meaning. Aside from the obvious 'devil may care' attitude of the women in the photographs, which is delightful all on its own, there is a wonderful depiction of what is real. And real is something young women are no longer privvy to, other than their own reflection in the mirror.
